At Physicians Wound Treatment of Tampa, we understand a wound is far more than an opening in the skin. A wound can cause physical discomfort from pain or odor, emotional distress sometimes just from the sight of the wound, lost time from work, and simply put a disruption to your everyday life. We specialize in the treatment of chronic, non-healing wounds; and we don’t just treat the wound, we treat the entire person.

One of the keys to healing a wound, is determining its correct etiology or cause. Wounds differing in etiology will have different treatment plans even if they are in the same anatomic location. And one of the most important parts to determining etiology is listening in detail to a patient’s history. Having a clear and open line of communication and obtaining a thorough history from the patient is of tantamount importance to determining diagnostic etiology. We combine this approach with the appropriate laboratory, imaging, and physical examination findings to accurately diagnose the problem. Drawing from the prior clinical experience of having seen and healed thousands of wounds from all varying etiologies, our goal is complete wound closure.

A second key to wound healing is having the correct treatment plan tailored to each individual. We understand that two wounds of the same etiology, for example two diabetic wounds, may have different treatment plans based on wound location, wound size/depth, wound odor, amount of necrotic tissue and drainage, patient’s nutritional status, and lower extremity blood flow. We know wound care is definitely not one size fits all. This is why being treated by a board- certified physician with a general surgery background who specializes full time in wounds only, makes such a significant difference.

Our approach is holistic combined with current, cutting-edge, treatments to obtain complete closure of your wound as quickly and pain free as possible. We focus on all aspects of wound care including secondary support surfaces/devices and wound prevention. We customize each treatment plan uniquely to the entire patient, not just the wound.
